‘When light is reflected on black, it transforms and transmutes it. It opens up a mental field all of its own.’
– Pierre Soulages
There’s a line in one of Haruki Murakami’s novels where the sky grows darker, one stroke at a time, into deeper shades of night. Whilst wandering the streets in the night air I connect to it all, from the stars, city lights to other souls who inhabit the city after dark. The shades of night are like entire universes to me.
